Fiji's Public Service Commission permanent secretary, Parmesh Chand, has announced that 357 public servants will retire this year as part of the retirement at 55 policy adopted by the interim government last year.

Mr Chand told Fiji Live that flexibility will be maintained to re-engage those over 55 on a case by case basis as needed.

He said the retirement policy is part of reforms to contain the size of the public service and provide opportunities for younger graduates .

Last year 2,231 employees retired with 292 re-engaged to ensure continuity of service in the respective ministries and departments.
