Mobile phone coverage in Vanuatu is being extended

Mobile phone coverage in Vanuatu is being extended to the Banks and Torres in the far north of the country.

The Minister of Telecommunications, Serge Vohor, and the Prime Minister, Edward Natapei, launched a new service last week on the island of Motalava.

Mr Vohor told those who gathered at the launch the current government is committed to developing the mobile phone network throughout Vanuatu.

Currently there are two telecommunications companies already operating in Vanuatu, Telecom Vanuatu Limited and Digicel.

Mr Vohor confirmed the government has issued licenses to other five telecommunications companies to operate in the country starting from next year to improve the telecommunications service in the country.

Meanwhile the Prime Minister, Edward Natapei, warned the people of Banks and Torres that

mobile usage has good and bad sides, urging the people to use mobile phones for the betterment of their islands.
