The daughter of Niue's premier, Toke Talagi, has laid to rest rumours that the premier is in New Zealand to receive treatment for an illness.

Opposition MP Terry Coe says people have been wanting to know why the premier is away, and what is wrong with him.

He says the premier has missed two assembly meetings with rumours he is away sick.

Public works and health minister O'Love Jacobsen is the acting-premier in his absence.

But the daughter of Toke Talagi, Sonya Talagi, has dismissed the rumours saying her father is not ill and is simply away on leave.

Speaking from New Zealand, she says her father had initially intended to take leave later this month, but decided to take it a little earlier.
