Warwick International Hotels is to begin building a hotel resort and spa in Vava'u in Tonga by the end of this year.

The president of Warwick, Richard Chiu, announced the company's plans during a function hosted by the noble 'Akau'ola, who owns the land on Taunga in Vava'u where the resort will be sited.

Mr Chiu says he was overwhelmed by the natural beauty of Taunga and its white sandy beaches as well as the warmth of the welcome he and his family had received while in Tonga.

The Tonga Prime Minister, Dr Feleti Sevele, says the hotel's construction will trigger a whole range of new business and economic opportunities in Vava'u, as well as provide much needed employment for the people of Tonga.
