Papua New Guinea's police chief, Gari Baki, has made a personal plea for his nephew, Greg Wava, to surrender after he escaped from jail with a gang of the country's toughest criminals.

This comes after a fellow escapee and bank robber, William Kapris, who is the country's most wanted criminal, was captured in the capital Port Moresby at the weekend.

Kapris was one of 12 prisoners who escaped from the city's Bomana jail on January the 12th after a warder was taken hostage and a woman posing as a lawyer pulled a gun on guards.

PNG's national newspapers reported Mr Baki's nephew was among the men who escaped.

Mr Baki says he is certain his nephew is being harboured by other people somewhere in Port Moresby.

The Commissioner called on Wava to go to his house and he will then escort him back to Bomana jail.
