The South Pacific Tourism Organisation says a regional conference in Samoa this week aims to connect potential investors with tourism opportunities in the region.

Acting chief executive Andrew Nihopara says the conference aim is to encourage investors and financial institutions to strengthen tourism infrastructure.

He says there are many untapped tourist opportunities around the Pacific region.

"It's just looking at the opportunities, scoping the opportunities at this stage, to see whether there is any genuine interest in terms of investment in infrastructure, which is one of the key challenges that tourism faces in the region."
