Tsunami warning unnoticed by Solomons public

1:24 pm on 2 March 2010

There are reports the tsunami warning issued in Solomon Islands on Sunday morning went largely unnoticed in Honiara.

The Solomon Star reports that people at the seafront and other locations did not know anything about the warning, while many people went about with their church programs.

Some of the inter-island vessels continued with their normal schedules to the provinces despite the warning.

The National Disaster Council had issued a nation-wide tsunami warning after the Pacific Tsunami Warning Centre said a wave less than one metre high would hit Solomon Islands.

The warning was cancelled after midday with no reported waves or damage in Solomon Islands.
