Vanuatu landowners block Lini School over govt non-payments

10:15 pm on 2 March 2010

Land owners in North Pentecost in central Vanuatu have reportedly locked the main entrance of the Lini Memorial School due to the reported non-payment of land rent by the government.

Over two hundred children usually attend the primary and secondary school.

The Ministry of Lands was unable to comment on the Monday protest action and hasn't revealed how much the land owners are owed.

The school was named Lini Memorial school after the Vanuatu's first post-independence prime minister, Father Walter Lini, who was from Pentecost.
