The Prime Minister of Papua New Guinea, Sir Michael Somare, has accused the Ombudsman Commission of being calculating, mischievous and lacking in transparency.
This comes after the Commission, in a report tabled in Parliament, called for Sir Michael to be investigated for his role in the escape from the country of the former Solomon Islands Attorney General, Julian Moti.
Mr Moti had been sought by Australian police over sex charges, which have now being thrown out by a Brisbane court.
Sir Michael says he's surprised the Ombudsman has called for the Police to further investigate his role in the use of a Defence Force plane to fly Mr Moti to the Solomons from Port Moresby.
Sir Michael says he was instrumental in establishing the PNG Constitution and the Ombudsman Commission and he would never abuse his power as Prime Minister to support any clandestine operation.
