An officer with the Royal Solomon Islands Police, Detective Inspector Florence Taro, has been awarded the Regional Assistance Mission's Special Coordinator's Award for Women.

This is in recognition of her contribution to improving the status of women both within and outside the police.

The RAMSI Special Coordinator, Graeme Wilson, presented the award to Inspector Taro at a breakfast, attended by more than 200 women, to mark International Women's Day.

He says Ms Taro has done much to bring about real changes that have significantly improved the situation for women in Solomon Islands.

Inspector Taro, who has recently been promoted to Deputy Director of the Criminal Investigations Division, has served with the Royal Solomon Islands Police Force for 20 years.
