French Polynesia defection strengthens ruling majority

The ruling coalition in French Polynesia has received a boost with the defection of Justine Teura from the opposition camp.

She says she will be an independent in the assembly but side with the majority, which has now expanded to 31 of the assembly's 57 members.

In her resignation letter sent to the assembly president, she gave no reason for her decision.

Her switch has further weakened the opposition, which has been threatening to try to oust the government formed last November.
