The President of Taiwan, Ma Ying-jeou, has begun his tour of Taipei's regional allies with a visit to the Marshall Islands.
He was welcomed in Majuro by President Jurelang Zedkaia after flying in from Guam where the presidential plane made a refuelling stop.
During the week-long tour, Mr Ma will also visit Kiribati, Nauru, Palau, Solomon Islands and Tuvalu.
Mr Ma is expected to discuss with his counterparts agriculture, solar energy and long-term development.
The Taiwanese delegation is 90-strong and includes many journalists.
