The interim Prime Minister of Fiji has cancelled his trip to the Hong Kong Sevens, where it was expected to meet the New Zealand Foreign Minister, Murray McCully.

The Fiji Sun reports that Commodore Frank Bainimarama has called off the trip to concentrate on relief efforts following Cyclone Tomas.

The newspaper said the President, Ratu Epeli Nailatikau, will be going in his place but it could not confirm whether he would meet Mr McCully.

It says Commodore Bainimarama has been assessing damage in Lau and Lomaiviti before the government decides on a national relief programme.
