The Methodist Church in Fiji has denied that there is a split within its senior ranks.

Fiji Live online reports this comes after a call to have the church's President, the Reverend Ame Tugaue and his General Secretary, the Reverend Tuikilakila Waqairatu to step down.

Following a meeting with a Government delegation led by the Prime Minister Commodore Frank Bainimarama last week, senior church ministers convened an emergency meeting where it was agreed that the current leadership be changed.

The acting general secretary, the Reverend Epeli Nawadra said while there were some objections to having the current leadership changed, the decision was finally unanimously agreed to.

He confirmed the decision to ask the Reverend Tugaue and the Reverend Waqairatu to step down was a result of a meeting with Government.
