A man in French Polynesia has spent a year alone on an atoll to raise awareness about donating organs.

Francis Gazeau, who himself had a heart transplant in 2004, has just returned from Tahanea atoll in the Tuamotu archipelago.

He has told Tahitipresse if people now sign up as donors he will have succeeded in his mission.

Mr Gazeau, who is 65, says he plans to write a book about his year spent in solitude.
