France set to launch digital TV in overseas territories

French television is to invest 40 million US dollars over three years into public broadcasting in the French overseas territories as they adopt digital television.

The switch is to start in November and will allow the territories to get up to ten channels, including six public ones.

New Caledonia, French Polynesia and Wallis and Futuna are among the territories to benefit.

The annual transmission costs of digital television are expected to be 27 million US dollars
