American Samoa lobbies for hyperbaric treatment

American Samoa congressman Faleomavaega Eni is seeking federal funding to built a Hyperbaric & Wound Treatment Center at the LBJ hospital in Pago Pago.

Faleomavaega made the congressional requesting for 1.5 million US dollars to fund a centre, to serve patients with medical treatments for non-healing wounds resulting from diabetes.

The Congressman says there are 5,000 local residents who are diabetic and the hyperbaric chamber will provide treatments to combat unnecessary amputations related to the disease.

He said the facility will also serve patients with diving injuries, carbon monoxide poisoning and several other disorders that today cannot be treated in American Samoa.
