Almost 7-thousand teachers in Papua New Guinea are being suspended from payroll this week for not submitting their Resumption of Duty Summary forms on time this year.

The secretary of Education Dr Joseph Pagelio has called on all schools and provincial education divisions to ensure that their teachers' forms are forwarded quickly to Education headquaters to avoid unneccessary and prolonged suspension.

In a statement released to media, Dr Pagelio said that all teachers are required by law to complete the forms on the first day of school, which this year was January 25.

Nine weeks on from the resumption, only 35,647 teachers are reported to have resumed out of a total 42,038 on the payroll.

Dr Pagelio says that suspended teachers would be placed back on the payroll upon receipt of their forms.
