Tonga's King alleged to have thrown Ashika report on the floor

The King of Tonga is alleged to have thrown a report investigating the sinking of the ferry, Princess Ashika, on the floor.

The sinking last August claimed 74 lives, sparking a Royal Commission of Inquiry that last week presented its report on the incident to the King and the Privy Council.

The report is yet to be released to the Tongan public, which has prompted calls for the Minister responsible to make a sincere apology to grieving families.

Our correspondent in Nuku'alofa, Mateni Tapueluelu, says it would appear that the report's not been welcomed by the King and his executive.

"One of my sources already told me that the King threw the report down on the floor when it was handed to him so it doesn't sound like they will welcome it and do something positive with the report."
