One of four men who robbed a bank in Samoa has been caught.

Two men were armed with guns, believed to be pistols, and two with machetes robbed the Westpac branch in Vaitele shortly after it opened.

The suspect who was caught is believed to have been left behind as his colleagues fled in a car.

The bank's general manager, Jason Green, has declined to say how much money was stolen.

It was the first reported bank robbery in Samoa's history.
