The Papua New Guinea Police Commissioner has ordered a full report from the Major Organised Crimes investigation team to explain how the police interview footage had been leaked to the public.
In an hour-long videotaped confession, PNG's most notorious criminal, William Kapris, has told police he was a bag man for a network of Asian crime gangs and senior government ministers who planned and funded his major robberies.
According to the newspaper, The National, Gari Baki says the leak would not detract police from their prime target of ensuring Kapris was prosecuted for his alleged crimes.
He says assistant commissioner Raphael Huafolo and National Capital District assistant commissioner Awan Sete had been instructed to get investigators to complete and submit the report.
Mr Baki said he was also not ruling out the possibility of the team members being involved in the leak.
He says the contents of the interview and access to the public are unsanctioned information but its availability to the public is now unstoppable.
