The American Samoa Government has filed a counterclaim with the federal court in Hawai'i against Honolulu-based Marisco Incorporated as well as denying the majority of allegations the shipyard cited in its suit filed in March.
Marisco claimed that ASG owes more than US$800,000 to the company and their suit resulted in the ASG tugboat Sailele being arrested in Honolulu but later released.
The tugboat arrived in the territory last Thursday.
In its response to Marisco's suit the government's legal representative, asked the court to dismiss the complaint "with prejudice" and award the government with legal costs and any further relief the court deems just and equitable in the circumstances.
The American Samoa government says it paid Marisco about $2.18 million for the work performed and equipment and materials were allegedly provided by the plaintiff.
