Vanuatu's Education Minister is pushing for the abolition of restrictions placed on ni-Vanuatu students studying overseas.

It is a government policy that all students who have completed their overseas study programmes must return to Vanuatu to work for two years before they can apply for another award to further their formal training.

The Daily Post reports that the Minister, Charlot Salwai, wants ni-Vanuatu students to be able to extend their programmes to obtain a higher level of qualification after their undergraduate studies while they have the opportunity.

He says Vanuatu needs more qualified people at the master's and doctoral levels.
