Improper voter resistration alleged in Solomon Islands

8:38 am on 7 May 2010

Allegations of improper voter registration have emerged in Solomon Islands with the MP for West Honiara claiming thousands of non residents plan to vote in his constituency.

Isaac Inoke Tosika told Solomon Islands television there are people living in East and Central Honiara who are trying to influence the election outcome in West Honiara.

"There will be no support from that candidate for people who reside in West Honiara. Because their right has been stolen by people of East and people of Central Honiara. Which under [the] constitution [they] should not do that one."

Mr Tosika has named some families he believes are wrongly enrolled on the draft electoral lists and has called for their names to be removed.
