A former assistant police commissioner in Samoa, Tiatia Moto'otua, has been found guilty of one count of indecently assaulting a police woman by kissing her on the lips.

But a charge of assault was dismissed because the prosecution was unable to prove it beyond reasonable doubt.

The verdict was delivered by Judge Tauiliili Fao Harry Schuster after a hearing last year at which several police officers gave evidence in support of the complainant.

Two other police officers, including the defendant's daughter gave evidence to defend the former assistant commissioner.

Tiatia Moto'otua was suspended from his police duties in 2007 soon after the allegations surfaced.
