The governor of the Northern Marianas is in Japan where he hopes to meet with the Japanese Prime Minister Yukio Hatoyama.
Governor Benigno Fitial hopes to discuss issues surrounding the possible relocation of up to 4,000 American troops from the U.S. Marine Corps Air Station at Futenma in Okinawa to Tinian.
Mr Fitial will also be joined in Japan by Guam Governor Felix Camacho, who left Guam for Japan yesterday.
Over the weekend, the pair met with six visiting lawmakers of Hatoyama's Democratic Party of Japan.
The Japanese law makers then invited the two Governors' to Tokyo this week, for a possible meeting with Mr Hatoyama, who ran for office with a promise to move U.S. troops from Futenma.
Meanwhile, next week, the CNMI governor will be in Washington D.C to testify at a congressional oversight hearing on the CNMI federalization.
