Residents of American Samoa are now able to cash in on federally funded rebates to buy energy efficient refrigerators, freezers, washers and air conditioning units.

The rebate program is offered by the TEO, Territorial Energy Office, and uses 100,000 US dollars in American Recovery and Reinvestment Act funding from the US Department of Energy.

The State Energy Efficient Appliance Program gives residents a voucher that will entitle them to a huge discount on the price of Energy Star appliances at three selected local stores, Transpac, CBT and CSL.

The Weatherization Assistance Program manager at TEO,

Malelega Tuiolosega, says residents can apply for the rebates at the TEO office in Tafuna.

The rebate for refrigerators is 175 dollars , 150 dollars for freezers, 175 dollars for washers, 100 dollars for a window air conditioning unit and 250 dollars for a split air conditioning unit.
