The Hawaii Department of Health has launched an investigation into how items donated for tsunami victims in American Samoa ended up being illegally dumped in Honolulu, Hawaii.
KHON-TV says a jogger made the discovery and a well respected member of the Kapolei community who made the donation was informed.
The items found at the illegal dump off the Old Pali road included a refrigerator full of rotting food, an air conditioning unit along with truck loads of office furniture, kitchenware, a baby's crib and tapes and DVD's from a local church.
Resident Pele Toomata whose name was on some of the dumped items, told the station that a friend of his was supposed to send the donations to American Samoa in a container.
He said he was shocked to find the items he'd donated had in fact been dumped.
