American Samoa Governor furious at job cuts prospect

American Samoa's Governor Togiola Tulafono says he is leaving it up to the territory's remaining cannery to release news about job cuts today, buts says he has his suspicions.

The Starkist Samoa cannery is expected to announce up to 1,000 workers in American Samoa may lose their jobs.

Governor Tulafono says if the cannery decides to make further reductions in its workforce he will be furious.

He says he had asked Star Kist to help him fight the case against the Federal Government-imposed escalation of minimum wages and Star Kist refused.

He says he will not attend this morning's announcement.
