Fiji has established diplomatic relations with Myanmar, which is also known as Burma.
According to the state-run newspaper the New Light of Myanmar, a joint statement was signed in New York by the two countries' representatives to the United Nations.
The move has made Fiji the first country in 2010 to set up diplomatic links with Myanmar since independence in 1948.
