Police in French Polynesia appear to have solved a murder case dating back to 1987.

A 51-year-old man has appeared in court after he was arrested at the weekend and confessed to killing the 14-year-old girl.

The case had been closed in 2004 but was reopened after a tip-off last year.

Radio reports say DNA tests were carried out which led to the arrest of Auguste Teriimana, a former employee of the government GIP group.
