The acting governor of the Northern Marianas, Eloy Inos, says Sichuan Airlines, which is one of China's main domestic airlines, is considering flying charter flights to Saipan.

But he says the company is yet to provide full details of its plans.

Mr Inos says the company has certain formalities to go through, including satisfying U.S. Department of Transportation requirements.

If it goes ahead the flights will go from Sichuan to Saipan viw Incheon in South Korea.

Mr Inos says Sichuan Airlines is considering two weekly charter flights, using an Airbus 340, which can carry some 300 passengers.

He says the CNMI government is glad to see foreign investors showing interest in the CNMI despite the economic difficulties.
