The Suva City Council in Fiji says it will save over 23 thousand US dollars in a jobs cut back initiative that will see the money rediverted towards development works in Fiji's capital.

The newly appointed special administrator for the Suva and Lami town councils, Chandu Umaria told FijiLive the cut back is for the sake of reducing numbers.

He also says it will ensure the posts that remain will not be surplus to the council's needs.

He says they are relooking at their operations and focusing on needy areas that have to be addressed right away by ensuring it has the right number of officers to perform the work effectively.

Mr Umaria said the 23 thousand US dollars that will be saved by the cuts will be used to carry out much needed works in the city.
