Police in Tonga are expected to bring more charges against two men accused of attempted murder after an alleged drive by shooting in the capital, Nuku'alofa, early on Saturday morning.

A 26 year old nightclub security guard was shot in the chest after a person in a passing vehicle fired at him outside the Steak and Rock Nightclub in the CBD.

Meanwhile police say they have strong leads as they investigate the robbery of two Asian men lured to a wharf by Tongans who claimed to be beche de mer divers.

The acting police commander, Taniela Faletau, says a substantial amount of cash was stolen from the Asian men.

The robbers are believed to threatened the Asian men with guns.
