Vanuatu leader off to New Caledonia to study implementation of Noumea Accord

3:52 pm on 7 June 2010

The Prime Minister of Vanuatu, Edward Natapei, is travelling to New Caledonia tonight in his capacity as chairman of the Melanesian Spearhead Group.

Mr Natapei is heading an MSG delegation to check on progress in the implementation of the Noumea Accord.

Our correspondent says the visit will ensure Mr Natapei is well briefed on the issue ahead of the Pacific Islands Forum summit in Port Vila in early August.

Mr Natapei will assume the chairmanship of the Forum at that meeting.

In New Caledonia, the delegation, which will be in the territory for four days, is expected to meet with various heads of political groupings.
