Break-in closes big Vanuatu school

3:03 pm on 9 June 2010

A break-in at the only bilingual primary school in the Vanuatu capital has prompted the headmaster to send 1,000 pupils home.

The headmaster of Fresh Water primary school, Edwin Tony, says computers and important documents were stolen from the administration office.

Mr Tony says he was the last person to leave on Monday and he doesn't know how the thieves managed to enter the main gate and the office.

Yesterday, children and teachers protested in front of their school asking for respect of their institution.

Our correspondent says it is not the first time that Fresh Water school has faced vandalism.

Normal instruction is expected to resume tomorrow.
