Fiji's interim prime minister, Commodore Frank Bainimarama, says he hasn't considered contesting the 2014 elections.

Commodore Bainimarama has told the Fiji Broadcasting Corporation that his focus is to build a better Fiji and hand a stable country over to the government that comes to power in 2014.

Three years ago, he said he would definitely not contest the elections.

Commodore Bainimarama then told local media that he did not want the interim prime minister's job either but the military council decided he should take it up so it would not go to someone like Laisenia Qarase.

He went on to say that the military should not be running the government which should be left to the politicians.

A military spokesman said in 2007 if ministers of the interim cabinet decide to break their commitment not to stand, they will look foolish.
