7:10 pm on 21 June 2010

The Vanuatu Parliament has agreed that the National Provident Fund can loan around 30 million US dollars to Air Vanuatu.

The Minister of Finance, Sela Molisa, who is also represents the Government on the airline's board, says without this money to settle debts, Air Vanuatu couldn't survive.

Mr Molisa told Parliament the current administration under the acting CEO, Joseph Laloyer, is doing its best to ensure the airline continues to operate.

As part of its rescue plan, the Government has removed several politicians from the airline's board, replacing them with civil servants.
