Public auditor urged to probe CNMI Public School system Abuses

9:29 am on 1 July 2010

The Office of Public Auditor in the Northern Marianas is being urged to investigate various allegations of abuse being committed by Public School System officials.

Some of the issues raised have been the wasteful use of public funds, allowing outsiders to use PSS funds for travel, and questionable credit card use.

The request for investigation alleges that the officials have been violating certain laws and U.S. Department of Education regulations.

A recent audit conducted for Fiscal Year 2009 also found a questionable contract with a software provider.

The formal complaint has now been filed with Public Auditor and with copies furnished to a number of federal agencies and the Governor.
