Samoa's Parole Board has granted parole to a former Cabinet Minister convicted of murder in 1999.

Leafa Vitale was found guilty of killing Luagalau Levaula Kamu, who was then the Minister of Works.

Leafa has served 10 years at the Tafaigata Prison.

Last week, he was admitted to the Tupua Tamasese Hospital in what his physician, Lemalu Dr Limbo Fiu, described to the Samoa Observer as an extremely worrying condition.

Leafa has arthritis, diabetes and is using a wheelchair.

Leafa's son, Eletise, shot Luagalau on instructions from his father and another former Cabinet Minister, the late Toi Aukuso, during the Human Rights Protection Party's birthday celebration at Alafua in 1999.
