Questions have been raised about the time it took to investigate a case in Samoa which has resulted in the conviction of a police inspector on five counts of committing an indecent act.
Inspector Finearo Aimaasu was granted bail until sentencing after his conviction on Friday.
It was December 2006 when his victim Viliamu Fa'aleleiga first complained about the indecent acts which occurred at a centre for young offenders during that month.
Our correspondent Alan Ah Mu says the issue of the time it took for the case to be heard was raised in court
"The length of time between the time the complaint was made and when it went through the legal process so that it reached the court was mentioned in the judges ruling but there were no conclusive statements either from the judge or the police here as to why it took so long."
Alan Ah Mu says the sergeant who eventually investigated the case could find no written records of interviews conducted by police in 2006 and 2007.
