The StarKist Company plans to increase workforce for it's headquarters in the U.S. city of Pittsburgh, despite major layoffs planned for its American Samoa operation.

The Pittsburgh Tribune-Review newspaper reports StarKist will increase employment at the headquarters from 70 to 115 workers.

StarKist chief executive officer, Donald Binotto, told the paper the company is committed to Pittsburgh and committed to growing its business in the city.

The hiring of more employees at headquarters comes amid the company's move to a new location in Pittsburgh.

StarKist however, is laying off up to 800 workers in American Samoa in the next couple of months with the first 150 to be let go on August the 28th.
