Fighting termites will cost Fiji more

3:58 pm on 12 July 2010

The interim Fiji Government will have to spend more money on the termite infestation programme in Lautoka.

The permanent secretary for Agriculture, Colonel Mason Smith, says overseas experts have briefed staff and the interim Prime Minister, Frank Bainimarama, and he says this is one of the worst termite infestations ever.

Colonel Smith told Fiji Live about 150-thousand US dollars has been spent on Operation Kadivuka and more costs are expected to be incurred later.

So far a total of 936 houses, 16 schools and more than 2000 trees have been infested.
