Samoa police again in the spotlight after complaints of indecent assault

4:57 pm on 15 July 2010

Samoa's Police Professional Standards Unit is investigating an alleged indecent assault claim made against a junior officer.

A 20 year old woman says the incident took place at the main police

headquarters in Apia last week while she was filing a complaint on a separate matter.

Police spokesperson and assistant commissioner, Leaupepe Fatu Pula, says the allegations have again tarnished the image of the police.

He says the officer involved was handling the woman's complaint at the time of the alleged assault.

The latest incident comes as a police inspector, found guilty of indecency offences committed three years ago, is to be sentenced next Tuesday.
