Pacific Forum to assess its achievements for 40th anniversary

4:55 pm on 15 July 2010

The Pacific Islands Forum plans to mark its 40th anniversary next year by compiling a stock take of its achievements to date.

The Secretary General, Tuiloma Neroni Slade, has told the Forum Officials Committee meeting underway in Suva that the value of the agency cannot be judged simply by how long it has been around.

Rather he says it has to be judged by what differences it has made to the welfare and lives of the people of the region it serves.

Mr Slade says they will take stock of the achievements and reflect on some of the lessons learnt over the years to help ensure that agency maintains its relevance as the premier political organization in the Pacific.
