A member of the American Samoa House of Representatives revealed yesterday that StarKist Samoa has held talks with the Samoa Government.

Tuala uta representative Galu Satele Jr,. told the House that he's learned that the cannery has held meetings with Samoa.

He says he wants to know what has happened to the request that leaders of StarKist made to the Fono for a task force to work on a total recovery plan that would benefit all stakeholders.

Satele says the cannery leaders had told the Fono about the pending layoffs and asked for help.

Now, the cannery has laid off 300 employees and he understood that another 200 will be furloughed in October.
