PNG Opposition leader says Somare family has to go because it's destroying the nation

The Papua New Guinea Opposition leader, Sir Puka Temu, says it is time for the Somare administration's reign to end.

Sir Puka, Deputy Prime Minister until Monday when he joined the Opposition, had tried to bring a motion for a vote of no confidence in Sir Michael Somare's coalition Government, but was stymied by the Speaker adjourning Parliament.

The Opposition say they'll continue efforts to topple the government, with renewed focus on both Sir Michael and his son Arthur, for gross mismanagement and alleged corruption.

Sir Puka says Sir Michael and his family are destroying the nation.

He says they break laws and treat Parliament like a joke, and he fears the Government will use the time until November to win additional support through inducements.
