A New Zealand author says he's pleased with the film script for his award winning novel set in the Papua New Guinea autonomous province of Bougainville.

Lloyd Jones book "Mister Pip" was published in 2006 and is set in 1991 during Bougainville's ten year conflict and told through the eyes of the main character, Matilda.

Casting is now underway in Solomon Islands and later will be conducted in PNG.

Lloyd Jones says he hopes the right person will be cast to play Matilda as she's crucial to the film's success, and he thinks it would be more authentic if it's filmed in Bougainville.

Mr Jones says he's happy with the quality of people involved in the film, including U.S. based New Zealand director, Andrew Adamson.
