Vanuatu NGO angry at losing aid support from New Zealand

The Vanuatu Women's Centre is the latest of several NGOs in the Pacific to lose funding from the New Zealand aid agency NZAID.

The centre's director, Merelyn Tahi, says from October this year, the organisation will no longer receive the annual 101 thousand US dollars of support.

Ms Tahi says without the assistance, the organisation will have to shut its doors in Luganville.

She says since the establishment of the Luganville office in 1995, New Zealand has supported the running of the Women's Centre and its activities.

Ms Tahi says New Zealand has reneged on an agreement signed in 2007, pledging financial assistance until 2012.
