10:06 am on 10 August 2010

The weeklong Samoan Heritage Week in Hawai'i is set to officially open today at Ke'ehi Lagoon Park on Oahu, with the organizing committee putting the final touches on the event, that will showcase Samoan culture, people and activities.

The committee, chair by Afimutasi Gus Hannemann, is keen on attracting not only Samoans but non-Samoans residing Hawai'i to be part of the second annual event, which was first launched last year.

Afimutasi says that everything is all set and the committee is looking forward to the start of the heritage week.

Throughout the week, there will be a number of booths including, crafts and food vendors as well as representatives from city and state agencies such as fire and police -where Samoans are employed.
